Andrew J. Chambers, Lieutenant - Nurse Corps

Panelist, Let's Talk Afghanistan

A native of Pensacola, Florida, LT Chambers enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as a Cannon Crewman in 2003.  He deployed with Bravo Battery, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  He served as a Marine Security Guard with Marine Corps Embassy Security Group from 2007 to 2010.  LT Chambers received an Honorable Discharge in May 2011 as a Staff Sergeant where he was serving as a platoon sergeant in Sierra Battery, 5th Battalion, 10th Marines.

LT Chambers received his bachelor’s of science in nursing from the University of West Florida in 2015 and received his commission through the Navy Nurse Candidate Program.  From 2015 to 2017 he served as a charge nurse at the Multi Service Unit and a wound care nurse in the General Surgery Clinic aboard U.S. Naval Hospital Guam.

From 2017 to 2020 he was a team leader in the Navy’s largest Emergency Department at the Naval Medicine and Readiness and Training Command Portsmouth, Virginia.  Chambers also served as the Junior Officer Representative for the Nurse Executive Committee and as the Emergency Department’s Emergency Management Officer.  He deployed in support of the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force 19.1 in 2018 where he served as the surgical company’s operations officer and shock trauma platoon nurse.

In June 2020, LT Chambers executed his orders as the Shock Trauma Platoon Nurse for Combat Logistics Battalion 24, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit.  He deployed with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit where he served as the sole MEU En-Route Care Nurse from February 2021 to September 2021.  During this deployment, LT Chambers supported operations in Kabul, Afghanistan for Joint Task Force Afghanistan and Operation Allies Refuge.

 

LT Chambers is a Certified Emergency Nurse.  His awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 2 gold stars as well as various other campaign medals and honors.
