Bio: 

Gillian Schmitz, MD, FACEP is an Associate Professor at the Uniformed Services University and an emergency physician at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. She currently serves as the President and a member of the Board of Directors of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP).

Dr. Schmitz has had an extensive career in emergency medicine and has practiced across the country. She brings many years of clinical experience in urban, rural, government, and academic emergency practice settings. She has been involved with emergency medicine research and is a former Emergency Medicine Foundation grant recipient, published author, and reviewer for several medical journals. She has served as a national speaker for the American College of Emergency Physicians, Emergency Medicine Residents Association, Council of Residency Directors, the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine, and the Center for Medical Education.

 

Dr. Schmitz has spent most of her career teaching residents and medical students and is passionate about advocating for young physicians. She has received several national awards for her leadership roles including the Early Career Faculty Award for Women in Academic Emergency Medicine (AWAEM), ACEP’s National Teaching Faculty award, and a national leadership and mentoring award from the Emergency Medicine Resident’s Association.
