Point of Care Ultrasound Course

POCUS RECON for the Deployed Doc

POCUS RECON for the Deployed Doc

03MAR2019 0800-1200

This hands-on ultrasonography workshop will turn the focus to POCUS for the military emergency medicine provider in the forward location. The workshop will be instructed by joint military ultrasonography educators, supported by reviews of ultrasonography applications in the current Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG), and Deployed Military Medicine.

Students will receive advanced access to SonoSIM modules online to review core focused content for the workshop. After a review, students will apply these foundations to a case based hands-on implementation of the ability to save all of the patients at FOB Nowhere. What will decide their resuscitation efforts? Their evacuation priorities under semi-permissive conditions?

The power is in the hands of the learner in this combination of live models, ultrasound phantom mannequins, and SonoSim trainers – one need only to apply a little (or a lot) of gel.

 Objectives:

  1. To introduce and update the clinically significant applications of POCUS in the forward deployed medical setting for the emergency provider caring for trauma patients.
  2. E-FAST with IVC assessment
  3. Airway
  4. Musculoskeletal
  5. Procedural
  6. TBI ICP Optic Nerve Sheath Measurements
  7. To provide pre-conference review materials through distance learning in order to offer maximal hands-on performance of high-yield applications of ultrasound to increase diagnostic and therapeutic accuracy in the care of trauma patients
